Foreign Direct Investment in the first 2 months of 2009

In the first 2 months of this year, foreign direct investment flow attracted by Romania reached EURO 1374 million, registering a 38% increase as against the same period of last year. (EURO 995 million)

The structure of FDI attracted by Romania in the period of January-February 2009 was as follows:

  • Participation to the capital – 45.2%
  • Intra-group credits – 38.4%
  • Reinvested profit – 16.4%

As far as the macroeconomic impact is concerned, foreign direct investments financed entirely the current account deficit in the first 2 months of 2009, as against 39.7% in the period of January-February 2008.

In the existing context, we consider that Romania will remain an attractive and profitable destination for FDI attraction, the decision of foreign partners is influenced more and more by calculus of economic efficiency, including the highly qualified cheap workforce in comparison with other EU member states.
